Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh!

Together they would travel in a boat with billowed sail
And Jackie, he kept a lookout perched on puffs gigantic tail,
And noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came,
And pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name. Oh!

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant lings just make way for some other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And old puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.

Without his life long friend, puff could not be brave,
so puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!

마술의 용 퍼프는 바닷가에 살았어요
"하날리"라 불리는 그곳에서 가을안개속에 뛰어놀았지요
꼬마 재키 페이퍼는 그런 장난꾸러기 퍼프를 사랑했지요
실과 초, 그리고 다른 신기한 물건도 가져다 주었답니다.오!

돛에 바람을 가득싣고 둘은 함께 배를 저어갔지요
재키는 퍼프의 큰 꼬리에 앉아 망을 보았어요
그들이 가는 곳마다 고귀한 왕과 왕자들은 머리를 숙였지요
퍼프가 이름을 소리쳐 부르면 해적선도 깃발을 내린데요, 오!

용은 영원히 살수 있지만 꼬마소년은 그렇지 않아요
색칠해진 날개와 거인 반지는 다른 장난감을 위해 자리를 비켜주었지요
어둑한 밤에 그 일이 벌어졌어요, 재키페이퍼는 더 이상 오지 않았고
힘쎈 퍼프용은 그의 거침없는 울음소리를 멈추었어요

 

그의 머리는 슬픔으로 인해 떨구어졌고 푸른 비늘은 비처럼 떨어졌어요
퍼프는 더 이상 체리나무 오솔길을 놀러가지 않았어요
평생을 함께 했던 친구 없이는 퍼프는 용감할 수 가 없으니까요
그래서 힘쎈 퍼프는 슬픔에 잠겨 그의 동굴로 돌아갔어요, 오!
